State education leaders readily admit nervousness as the Governor and the Legislature maintain their feud about funding for the schools. Educaton Commissioner Kent King says his Department.is in limbo on some issues. He says he’s told local school districts to plan for more cuts in state aid, no matter what the final budget is that the Legislature approves. The head of the state’s higher education system is confident the Governor and the Legislature will be able to find a way to approve a budget for colleges and universities. Higher Education Commisisoner Quentin Wilson thinks his department can wait for the game to be played out in the Capitol. He says he’s telling colleges and universities to look for more withholdings of state support after July 1st – no matter what dollar amount the Governor and Legislature finally agree on.
