Watson, Williamson Finish A Stroke Apart At Open

June 16, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

At the U.S Open, Jim Furyck came away with the first major championship of his career, finishing at 8-under par. Jay Williamson of St. Louis was the highest finishing Missourian, shooting a 3-over for the tournament. This was the first time Williamson ever made the cut in three tries at the U.S. Open. He was in good company, as Tiger Woods, Justin Leonard, Vijhay Singh and Mark Calcaveccia were also three over. Williamson shot a 3-over, 73 on Sunday. The big story on Thursday was 53-year old Kansas City native Tom Watson, who led after the first round with a 5-under round of 65. He finished up at 4-over.
