Metal Soldier Returns To Courthouse In Cape Girardeau

June 13, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

A Civil War soldier soon will be back on guard duty at the courthouse in Cape Girardeau. The metal soldier was broken into about 200 pieces when a tree fell on it during a storm ina may. He’d been part of a Civil War Memorial Fountain since 1911. Sculptor Alan Gibson of Dexter has put the pieces together. The county commission will pay him $13,200 for that – and for recasting the statue.
