Barret Jackman won’t break any of Wayne Gretzky’s records, but the Blues defenseman does share one thing with the Great One. Both won the Calder Trophy. The NHL’s rookie of the year award was given to Jackman last night in Toronto. He had just 19 points (three goals, 19 assists), which is the lowest total ever for a Calder Trophy winner, and his 190 penalty minutes were the most ever for the winner of the award. But Jackman proved to be an iron man for St. Louis this season. He played in all of the Blues regular season and post-season games, and posted a +23 in the plus/minus department. Jackman is the first St. Louis Blue to win the award and just the ninth defenseman to do so.
