Senate Committee Defers Decision On Revenue Generating Bills

June 12, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The Senate Ways and Means Committee has decided to pass on the opportunity to vote on a series of revenue generating bills. Rather than vote in favor or against the bills, the Committee has adjourned without taking any action. Senator Doyle Childers of Reeds Spring is the sponsor of two of the bills before the Committee. He says by taking no action, the bills remain alive and could be voted on in the future – provided the special session is not adjourned. It’s Childers’ belief that Senators want to see if they can balance the budget without the tax increases before making decisions on the bills. The full Senate is today debating the four budget bills vetoed by Governor Bob Holden.
