Lawyer In Amrine Case Claims Prosecution Stalling Release

June 10, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The lawyer for prison inmate Joseph Amrine charges the Cole County prosecutor is stalling the release of Amrine from the state prison in Potosi. He says he’ll ask the State Supreme Court to throw out a request from prosecutor Bill Tackett that Amrine be kept in prison another 90 days while some DNA tests are run. The Court already has thrown out Amrine’s conviction and death sentence. Tacket has until next Monday to refile charges or Amrine will be considered a free man. Tackett says he wants another three months to run tests on a shirt Amrine was wearing the day another inmate was killed at the state penitentiary in 1986.
