An assistant coach’s life is normally one of obscurity. But not for Jim Pirch. The offensive and defensive line coach for Camdenton High School is well known for his joke telling and sense of humor. And he’s also a darn-good coach. Earlier this month Pirch was named the National Assistant Coach of the Year. He’s been at Camdenton for 30 years and is entering his 28th year as an assistant for head coach Bob Shore. In that time, the line–or the “Hogs” as they’re known around the Lake of the Ozarks–have been the foundation for over 300 wins during the Shore-Pirch era. The Lakers have also won four state championships.
