The Royals managed only five hits off starter Kevin Brown in a 5-2 loss to the Dodgers. Kansas city took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when Mike Sweeney drove in a run with a double and scored on Brown’s wild pitch. The lead didn’t last long for Kansas City. Sean Green tied it up with a home run off Darrell May in the bottom of the sixth and Cesar Izturis singled to left field in the seventh inning to give the Dodgers the lead. Fred McGriff’s home run in the eighth gave Los Angeles some cushion, but they wouldn’t need it. The Royals went hitless after the sixth inning. Mike Sweeney left the game in the eighth after being hit in the wrist with a pitch in the eighth inning. X-rays were negative.
