At the draft, SMS senior outfielders Dante Brinkley and Greg Mathis were taken in the 23rd and 30th rounds. Brinkley went to the Mets, Mathis to the Diamond Backs. Derek Roper, a junior pitcher from Mizzou, was taken by the Cardinals in the 32nd round. Southeast Missouri state pitcher Tim Alvarez was picked by the Giants. In total seven SMS Bears, four Missouri Tigers and two Southeast Missouri State Indians were taken.
