Business Groups Converge On Capitol

June 5, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

Business groups will gather at the state capitol today to encourage lawmakers to keep tax increases off the ballot. Governor Bob Holden has called on lawmakers to approve measures requiring a vote of the people. Kelly Gillespie with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, one of the groups spearheading the effort to bus people to the Capitol, says organizers want to counter all the talk from other special interest groups lobbying for tax increases. Gillespie points to the defeat of the last three tax increases as evidence that everyday Missourians want the state government to tighten its belt just like they have had to do.
