Congresswoman McCarthy Facing Ethics Probe

June 4, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

Kansas City Congresswoman Karen McCarthy, already under fire after she disclosed she is battling alcoholism, now is the subject of a House ethics investigation. McCarthy apparently violated House ethics rules by hiring a management consultant to help with her Congressional office, paying him out of campaign funds. McCarthy has acknowledged she hired Fenn and King Communications, a Washington political consulting firm, to perform an office audit. McCarthy recently took leave from her Congressional duties to seek treatment for her alcoholism in Arizona. She first won election to Congress in 1994. She says she plans to run for re-election.
