The special session of the Legislature is underway and might just take a couple of weeks. The session formally opened Monday, with the House in a so-called technical session with few members present and the Senate meeting in regular session. House Majority Floor Leader Jason Crowell of Cape Girardeau says the special session shouldn’t last too long. The House Budget Committee plans to hold hearings today and take final votes on the bills tomorrow so they can be ready for House floor debate Thursday, after Governor Bob Holden addresses a joint legislative session. The Governor called the Legislature into special session to consider four budget bills he vetoed as well as a revenue package to keep from enacting budget cuts.
