As state lawmakers come back to Jefferson City to consider a revenue package Governor Holden wants to save cuts to certain state agencies, Senator Wayne Goode says one giveaway the state has should be reconsidered. He doesn’t like tax increment financing, or TIFs. TIFs are tax breaks given to attract businesses to certain areas. Proponents say when the areas are developed, they produce more tax revenue than what was forgiven in the first place. Goode admits TIFs aren’t having an impact on the current budget situation, but they could signify lost revenue in the years to come.
