Edgar Renteria’s two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning proved to be the game-winner as the Cardinals beat the Pirates 5-4 at Busch Stadium. The hit broke a two-all tie and gave Renteria his 36th and 37th RBI’s of the season. Brett Tomko pitched six innings allowing three runs off six hits, but didn’t get the win. That went to reliever Steve Kline, who pitched one and two-thirds innings. With the win, the Cardinals avoided a sweep and moved to a game above .500. They’re in third place and trail the Cubs, who are in first place, by two games. St. Louis has a day off before opening up interleague play tomorrow against the Blue Jays.
