Southeast Missouri Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson has spent the last couple of days touring various parts of the state to determine how Missouri can contribute to homeland security. Emerson, who serves on the House Appropriations Committe for Homeland Security, says a tour of the Callaway Nuclear Plant in Mid-Missouri made her feel confident about security measures that are currently in place. Emerson says Callaway’s security was tremendous prior to the September 11th terrorist attacks, but it’s even better now. Emerson says if there’s one area of concern, it’s the nation’s inland waterways. She toured several locks and dams along the Mississippi River. Emerson believes terrorist activity along the Mississippi and other major thoroughfares could be devastation for American agriculture and other parts of the economy.
