The Royals were flattened before they knew what hit them. Starter Chris George allowed eight runs in an inning and a third as the Mariners blasted the Royals 15-7. Seattle lead 11-0 after three innings. Reliever Scott Mullen didn’t fare much better, allowing six runs in 3 2/3. Edgar Martinez did the most damage to Kansas City, hitting a two-run homer in the first and a three-run shot in the third. The Royals made the game less lopsided by scoring seven runs with seven different hitters recording RBI’s. No one homered for the Royals. George was charged with the loss dropping to 5-4 on the season. The loss combined with Minnesota’s 4-3 win over the A’s moves Kansas City even further back in the A.L. Central standings. They now trail the Twins by three and a half games.
