Cards Fall To Astros, Tomko Battered

May 23, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

Albert Pujols’ 14th home run of the season and J.D. Drew’s pinch hit RBI weren’t enough for the Cardinals. They lost to the Astros 5-2. Brett Tomko was the starter, allowing five runs off eight hits in four and a third innings. With the loss, Tomko dropped to 2-3 on the season. In eight meetings with the Astros, the Cardinals have lost five, but all eight games have been competitive. Neither team has won by more than three runs. The Cardinals dropped into a third-place tie with the Reds. They trail the Cubs by two-and-a-half games.
