Carlos Beltran belted two three-run homers in a 14-5 win over the Mariners. Kansas City tied a franchise record, hitting six home runs; all six 14 runs were the product of homer runs. Michael Tucker, Joe Randa, Raul Ibanez and Angel Berroa also went deep in the series-tying rout. Starter Chris George got the win in five innings of work. He allowed all five Seattle runs, improving to 5-3 on the season. Relievers Sean Lowe, Jason Grimsley and Mike MacDougal allowed three hits and no runs over the final three innings. The Royals kept pace with first-place Minnesota which beat the A’s 4-3. Kansas City trails by a half game. Starting pitcher Miguel Asencio was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday. He missed last night’s start with tendonitis in his right elbow. The Royals and Mariners wrap up the series with a 3:35 start this afternoon.
