For the third day in a row, Governor Bob Holden has held a news conference to announce plans to veto a budget sent to him by the General Assembly. The latest target is the social services budget. Holden says the cuts contained in that budget could deny Medicaid health care coverage to thousands of low-income Missourians. Previously, the Governor had announced his intention to veto budget bills dealing with the Departments of Health, Mental Health, and Higher Education. The vetoes will trigger a special session of the Legislature. Holden has not yet announced the dates for that session.
