Morris Tosses Four-Hitter

May 20, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

Matt Morris needed only two hours and five minutes to dispose of the Cubs on Monday. He tossed a four-hit complete game shut out as the Cardinals topped Chicago 2-0. It was Morris’ fourth career shut out. Fernando Vina drove in Mike Matheny in the third inning and Albert Pujols hit his 11th home run in the eighth inning for St. Louis’ only tallies. Morris improved to 5-2 as the Cardinals took three of four from the Cubs. The victory moved the Cardinals into a tied for second place with the Astros in the National League Central. St. Louis and Houston both trail Chicago by two games.
