New Tone Called For As Legislators Look To Future

The just-concluded session of the Legislature had its share of nasty exchanges and it’s unclear whether that’s an indication of things to come or if it’s little more than the effects of a transition from Democratic to Republican control of both chambers. Democratic leaders point the finger at Republicans, saying they must set the tone for the future by treating the minority party with more respect. House Speaker Catherine Hanaway of Warson Woods insists Democrats – who had controlled both houses of the Legislature for almost half a century – are not used to being in the minority and will fight tooth and nail to try to regain their power.
