The Royals topped the Twins 9-4 in extra innings thanks to a four-run rally in the top of the 14th. Raul Ibanez, Ken Harvey, Desi Relaford and Angel Berroa drove in runs and D.J. Carrasco was able to hold off Minnesota in the bottom half of the inning to get the victory. The Royals led 5-3 in the eighth inning but gave it away. The tying run came across when Darrell May issued a walk with the bases loaded. After that, May was solid in his first appearance from the bullpen. He struck out six batters in 3 2/3’s innings of work. Kansas City took two of four from Minnesota. The win came on Tony Pena’s one-year anniversary with the team. With the split, the Royals improved their lead to two-and-a-half game over the Twins in the American League Central standings.
