Jason Simontacchi gave up seven runs in just 1 2/3’s innings as the Cardinals lost to the Reds 7-2. A five-run first got Cincinnati going. They scored two more in the second. Albert Pujols accounted for St. Louis’ only runs with a two-run home run in the third inning. It was his ninth homer of the season. No one scored for either side the rest of the way as Simontacchi dropped to 2-3….Eli Marrero’s situation is worse than expected. Doctors now say he’ll be gone at least eight weeks, two weeks longer than expected. He had surgery to repair torn ligaments in his ankle yesterday, which included having a screw inserted over two bones.
