Royals Lose Thanks To 10th-Inning Error

May 14, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

Ken Harvey’s double in the 8th gave Kansas City a 2-1 lead over the twins, but inn the 9th, Mike MacDougal gave up a run to force extra innings. In the 10th, A.J. Pierzynski grounded into what should have been an inning-ending double play, but Desi Relaford’s throw pulled Harvey off the bag. Harvey then tried to tag Pierzynski and the ball flew out of his glove, keeping the inning alive. Todd Sears followed up with a two-run homer to give the Twins a 4-2 win. Royals’ starter Kyle Snyder got his third straight no-decision. He went 6 1/3, allowing one run off five hits. Albie Lopez got the loss in relief, dropping to 4-2. Kansas City’s lead over Minnesota is two-and-a-half games.
