The Internal Revenue Service is warning about a couple of scams that target families of those serving in the Armed Forces. Bill Barksdale with the IRS in St. Louis says the scammers are getting hold of these military families and offering to help them take advantage of some tax benefits for the military for a fee, of course. Barksdale says the scammers, who either phone or e-mail intended victims, sometimes go so far as to provide a toll-free number or give a bogus website to make the offer sound legitimate. The IRS does not contact people to give information and it does not charge a fee for any information requested.
