President Bush has responded to the most recent tornado damage in Missouri by issuing a federal disaster declaration for the affected areas. This declaration helps the areas hit by Tuesday’s twisters. A previous declaration opened the door for federal assistance for regions of the state slammed into by Sunday’s tornadoes. Missouri’s two U.S. Senators, Christopher Bond and Jim Talent, toured the devastated areas of southeast Missouri on Friday, saying that while federal aid cannot replace what has been lost, it helps the victims to some degree. Talent says Missourians who suffered in the storms are demonstrating their resilience by bouncing back from tragedy.
