After building a 6-1 lead with a six-run rally in the sixth inning the Royals pitching staff collapsed in a 9-6 loss to the Red Sox. The Royals knocked starter John Burkett out of the game by scoring six runs. Mike Sweeney drove in two runs with a double. But Boston scored four runs off of rookie starter Kyle Snyder in the 7th, cutting the Royals lead to 6-5. In the eight inning, reliever Albie Lopez was charged with four runs in 2/3’s of an inning, as the Red Sox went up 9-6. Lopez was charged with the loss. The Royals welcome the Orioles to town after dropping two of three to the Red Sox.
