House Approves Informed Consent Abortion Bill

May 2, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

Abortions would be permitted only after a woman waits 24 hours under a bill approved by the legislature and sent to Governor Bob Holden. The House accepted the minor change made by the Senate so the bill wouldn’t have to overcome any more obstacles in that chamber. House sponsor Susan Phillips of Kansas City says women considering an abortion need the time and doctor’s visit required by the bill before proceeding. The Governor has indicated he would veto the bill. Supporters, though, note the House vote was 116 to 34, more than the 109 votes needed to overturn any veto.
