Two defensive assistants on the SMS football squad are leaving. Dana Chambers is taking the defensive coordinator job at Upper Iowa, where former SMS defensive coordinator Courtney Messingham is the head coach. Brian Cox is getting out of coaching altogether and will take an investment job in Springfield. Bears head coach Randy Ball says he has already begun a search to replace both assistants. Last season SMS went 4-7, losing six of their last seven games. They open the 2003 season against East Central University on Thursday, August 28 in Springfield.
