Health Department Campaigns For Awareness Of Need For Organ Donors

April 25, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The State Health Department is trying to raise public awareness of the critical need for organ and tissue donors. More than 81,000 Americans are currently awaiting life-saving transplants, with more than 3,200 of those people living in Missouri. Lori Darr, Manager of the Missouri Organ Donor Program, says that number only takes into account vital organs such as hearts, lungs, kidneys, and livers. The Department is asking Missourians to sign up for the Missouri Organ Donor Registry. So far, about 1.8-Million Missourians have signed up, accounting for almost a third of the state’s population.
