The Cardinals skid reached five games last night in a heart-breaking 4-3 loss in Atlanta. Fernando Vina’s RBI triple in the top of the seventh inning put St. Louis up 3-2. It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth. Cardinal reliever Steve Kline loaded the bases with a hit and two walks. He was relieved by Cal Eldred, who gave up a two-run single to Andruw Jones. Rafael Furcal scored the tying run and Garry Sheffield touched the plate for the winning tally. Kline was charged with the loss, dropping to 0-2 on the season. The Cardinals managed only four hits on the night while the Braves pounded out 15. St. Louis is now 9-11 on the season. They travel to Florida for a three game series with the Marlins.
