The Cardinals dropped their third straight decision with a 5-3 loss to the Braves. Gary Sheffield homered, doubled and drove in three off St. Louis pitchers. The Cardinals had a brief 1-0 lead in the third when Orlando Palmiero drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. But the Braves responded in their half of the inning with three runs and never trailed again. Garrett Stephenson got the loss dropping to 1-2. Orlando Palmiero drove in another run with a sacrifice grounder late in the game. Tino Martinez hit a solo home run, his second of the season.
