Heading into the homestretch of the legislative session, state lawmakers are racing to complete work on a budget to present to Governor Bob Holden. The Governor is calling for some tax increases as a way of easing the burden of some of the cuts that are being made. Senate Leader Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau says there’s not much support in the Senate, either, for tax hikes. The Senate Appropriations Committee has put forward a proposal that the entire Senate will take up this week.
