A bench-clearing brawl wasn’t enough to wake up the St. Louis offense. Four Arizona pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Diamondbacks blanked the Cardinals 1-0 on Sunday. Both benches emptied in the 5th inning. Arizona starter Miguel Batista hit Tino Martinez with a pitch in the shoulder blade. The two went at it one batter later. Both Batista and Martinez were ejected. The Diamondbacks scored the only run of the game on David Delucci’s RBI double in the top of the 5th. The Cardinals put two on with nobody out in the ninth, but failed to score. The Redbirds welcomed outfielder J.D. Drew back to the lineup. He was hitless in three at-bats and was hit by a pitch.
