Cardinal reliever Lance Painter spent the last year and a half getting his injured elbow ready for major league action again. In one pitch, his efforts were put on hold. Painter, who hadn’t allowed a run this season, went down in the 8th inning of the Cardinals 7-6 loss to the Rockies, with what’s believed to be a hamstring tear. He’ll have an MRI performed today. Steve Kline relieved him and allowed at two-run homer to Colorado shortstop Jose Hernandez. That made it 7-6 Rockies. The Cardinals entered the inning feeling pretty good about themselves. They rallied for four runs to take a 6-4 lead in the top half of the eighth. The Cardinals continue their road trip as they head to Houston this weekend.
