United States Steel has struck a new labor agreement with the United Steelworkers of America, strengthening its bid to acquire the assets of bankrupt National Steel, which includes Granite City Steel near St. Louis. AK Steel Corporation still has a bid on the table for National. It’s a bigger bid than that offered by United States Steel, but it’s contingent on a favorable labor deal which has yet to be hammered out.
