Post-Dispatch Story Alleges MU Violations

April 4, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

In a copyrighted story in this morning’s paper, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the University of Missouri might have violated NCAA rules in recruiting standout basketball player Jason Conley who left Virginia Military Institute for Mizzou. Conley led college basketball in scoring in 2002. VMI released Conley January 4 and his mother says MU coaches were the first to call. Five days later he transferred to MU. The Post-Dispatch says records it obtained through public records law indicate MU coaches violated the rules by calling Conley’s mother at least six times before her son told VMI coaches he wanted a release to leave. Head basketball coach Quin Snyder tells the newspaper the program did nothing wrong, though NCAA rules strongly prohibit tampering the players on other teams.
