The State Senate wants to set up a state commission on fat people. Senator Mary Bland of Kansas City has been pushing for creation of a State Commission on Prevention and Management of Obesity for years. The Senate has sent her plan to the House. The Commission would be around for two years. Bland sys it’s part of a national effort and notes that 70-Million americans are considered to be obese. Bland says only Illinois and Texas have required physical education in the schools. Another fellow Senator, Harold Caskey of Butler, suggested that he and Bland – who both are of, shall we say, mature proportions, not vote on the bill because it would be a conflict of interest. But both did and the bill has been sent to the House.
