Royals Blank White Sox In Opener

April 1, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals were quick and efficient in a 3-0 win over the White Sox. The two-hour five-minute game had just ten hits but the Royals were responsible for seven of them. In the second inning Angel Berroa singled in Brandon Berger and Brent Mayne drove in Ken Harvey with a sacrifice fly to give Kansas City a 2-0 lead. Mike Sweeney made it 3-0 scoring when he scored on a wild pitch. On the mound, Runelvys Hernandez went six innings allowing two hits, one walk and struck out five to get the win. Jason Grimsley gave up one hit in two innings of relief and Mike MacDougal pitched a perfect ninth inning to get the save. It was the Royals first season-opening shutout.
