West Central Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton says the nearly $75-Billion President Bush has proposed for the war against Iraq is about right, although he would like to see more money for homeland security efforts. Skelton, the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, is pleased with the $62-Billion set aside for the military, although he says that doesn’t account for a post-war occupation and rebuilding of Iraq. He thinks many of the countries against U.S. efforts now will want to help once the war is over. Skelton says he’ll have to “hold his nose” and accept the help because the U.S. will need all the assistance it can get.
