Missouri Congresswoman Seeks Help For Drinking Problem

Kansas City Congresswoman Karen McCarthy has a drinking problem and is seeking immediate treatment. The Congresswoman issued a statement Friday saying she has “hit bottom” and needs to take immediate action to deal with the problem. The statement followed an incident in Washington in which McCarthy cut her forehead after slipping on an escalator in a Congressional office building. A witness to the incident says McCarthy was incoherent and having difficulty walking. That Thursday night incident resulted in her missing two important votes – one dealing with the budget, the other on a resolution backing President Bush and U.S. troops involved in the war against Iraq.
