Birch Telecom of Kansas City has closed the deal to merge with Ionex to create one of the biggest competitive telephone companies in this part of the country. Ionex is based in Texas. The merged company will keep its headquarters in Kansas City. Some layoffs will occur but officers with the merged company say details haven’t been worked out yet.
