Mizzou Grabs 6-Seed Despite Loss To OU

March 17, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

If the 49-47 loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 tournament championship got the Missouri Tigers down, their seeding in the NCAA tournament certainly got them up. After falling to Oklahoma 49-47 on Sunday, the Tigers were rewarded for their play in the conference tourney, by getting the sixth- seed in the Midwest bracket of the NCAA Tournament. Missouri will take on 11th-seeded Southern Illinois in Indianapolis on Thursday afternoon. This is the Tigers fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Earlier in the day, Missouri almost erased a 22-point deficit to OU. They got it to within one, but couldn’t get the game-winning shot to fall. Arthur Johnson led the way for the Tigers with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The loss dropped them to 21-10 on the season. Southern Illinois, who lost in the Missouri Valley Conference Finals to Creighton, is 24-6.
