The Holden Administration is taking steps to strengthen the link between higher education and economic growth by creating the Commission on the Future of Higher Education. Higher Education Commissioner Quentin Wilson says there are several areas of concern – one of them being that too few Missouri high schoolers go on to colleges and universities. That study shows only 39-percent of Missouri students enroll in college within four years of high school graduation, compared to 45-percent of Kansas students, and 48-percent of students in Illinois. The Commission will recommend ways of seeing that more high schoolers go to college by focusing on some of the reasons there aren’t more students going beyond high school.
