Criticism Of St. Louis Mayor Ordered Edited From Videotape Of Gala

March 8, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

It’s said the camera never lies … but it sometimes doesn’t show the whole picture. St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay has ordered that a videotape recording of the city’s annual black history celebration be edited before it appears on the city’s cable TV channel. The part Slay wants removed features Alderman Irving Clay, who served as master of ceremonies for the Black History Celebration, accusing the Mayor of forcing out black decision-makers in city government. A Slay spokesman says the part being edited out is the ranting and raving of Alderman Clay that had nothing to do with the event. Clay responds to the editing decision, claiming this is conduct unbecoming of the Mayor.
