The State Auditor is looking at how well our government agencies are willing to tell the public what they’re doing and, again, she finds a lot of them drag their feet. Auditor Claire McCaskill says there is still a “circle the wagons” mentality among public officials when they are asked to provide records that are, under state law, available to the public. She says some counties, cities, school districts, and other public bodies took an average of 31 days to respond to open records requests – more than ten times as long as the law allows.
