McMurray Highest Show-Me At Daytona

February 11, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The rain-delayed Daytona 500 pole qualifier finally got underway Monday. Rookie Jamie McMurray of Joplin was the highest finishing Missourian. None of the Show-Me State drivers grabbed the pole, which means they’ll duke it out at the Twin 125’s on Thursday. McMurray will start 6th in the first race; Kenny Wallace of St. Louis will be 14th. In the second race Mike Wallace will be 13th, Ken Schrader of Fenton is 20th and Rusty Wallace is right behind him starting 21st. Jeff Green and Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished first and second. Defending points champion Tony Stewart’s engine failed and finished last and 2002 Daytona winner Ward Burton finished 19th. The Daytona 500 is Sunday.
