Blues Score Quickly, Beat Caps

January 29, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The Blues moved back into first place in the Central Division with a 5-3 win over the Capitals. After Scott Mellanby gave the Blues a 1-0 lead in the first, Washington responded with three straight goals. Then someone flipped the Blue’s switch. They scored three goals in a span of 2:14 near the end of the second period. Keith Tkachuk, Pavol Demitra and Al MacInnis were responsible for the goals. Tkachuk had an assist and added an empty-netter at the end of the game to give him 19 goals on the season. The Blues have 64 points and lead the Red Wings by one. St. Louis comes home to face Buffalo tomorrow.
