The candidacy of Al Hanson for State Auditor last year has led to a bill in the Legislature that would prohibit convicted felons from ever running for any public office in Missouri. Hanson served time in prison in Minnesota in the late 1970s. St. Charles Senator Chuck Gross would bar candidacies by anybody convicted by a jury or found guilty by a judge or who had pleaded guilty or no contest to felony charges.
