Illinois Inmate Spared From Death Penalty Could Face Death Here

January 15, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

One of the Illinois prison inmates who’s been removed from death row there by now-former Governor George Ryan could be brought to Missouri to face the death penalty here. Thomas Umphrey is charged with a murder here. The widow of the man he’s accused of killing says she wants him executed and she has asked the prosecutor in St. Louis to revive the murder charge against Umphrey. Umphrey already has a Missouri prison record. He served 14 years for a sexual assault and robbery case from Clinton County, in northwest Missouri before going to Illinois and being convicted of murder there.
